- Wine tasting at La Côte Saint-Jacques & SPA -
Following a visit to the La Côte Saint-Jacques wine cellar, we propose either a traditional or blind tasting. I will comment on the tasting and give you all the necessary explanations. The tasting is accompanied by cheese and pastry gougères and can serve as an aperitif.
- Discovering Bacchus -
Treat yourself to learning about and tasting excellent wines presented by those who create them – winegrowers, owners or cellar masters – all in the intimacy of a small group. Bacchus evenings begin with a cellar tasting and continue with a dinner prepared by Jean-Michel Lorain to complement the estate’s wines. The entire evening is led by the wine-grower, the cellar master and our sommeliers.
It’s all hands on kitchen-deck as you join the brigade and let yourself be guided by our chefs, who are dishing out precious advice. Proud of his culinary and gastronomic heritage, Chef Jean-Michel Lorain wanted to share his experience at the very heart of his property. The courses allow you to discover the gastronomic world of La Côte Saint-Jacques & Spa ***** and to learn about the main principles of today’s cuisine in a friendly atmosphere.
Joigny belongs to the "Cities and countries of art and history" and "Most Beautiful Detours of France" networks, thanks to the wealth of its heritage. Its old town, classified as a city of art and history, boasts large timbered-framed houses, including the Maison de l’Arbre de Jessé (known as Bailli). See the Gondi Castle overlooking the city as well as Saint John's Gate dating back to the 10th century, and don’t miss the Ferrand chapel dedicated to the Virgin and built under Francis I. The city is home to three churches classified as historical monuments, each of which contains artistic treasures: Saint-André church, Saint-Jean church and Saint-Thibault church. Enjoy the arboretum and the banks of the Yonne. Joigny, the cradle of Marcel Aymé. In this city bathed by the Yonne River, the actor of the famed “Contes du chat perché” was born in 1902. He would often return and would mention it in his personal correspondence. Madeleine-Sophie Barat was born in Joigny in 1779. She founded the society of the Sacred Heart for the education of young girls.
On the Way of St James, perched on the "eternal hill" in Vézelay, is the majestic and enigmatic Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To really appreciate its charm, and the sacred symbolism of its Roman architecture, we recommend you meet the fascinating Christopher Kelly at the visitor center. The most magical time to visit coincides with the winter and summer solstices, when the sun filters through the building’s high windows, creating a path of light on the floor that leads from the entrance to the nave all the way to the chancel.
