A must is a private tour of award winning, Hambleton Bakery. The bakery is a short drive from the hotel on the Exton country estate. Hambleton Bakery’s ‘signature’ loaves are made without baker’s yeast, using stone ground flour, long fermentation and baked in a wood fired oven for a perfect crust - the taste and goodness of traditional bread. Loaves include, Hambleton Sourdough, Hambleton Local, Borodinsky Rye Bread, hand made English Muffins, they also make a selection of delicious cakes, tarts & savouries. Julian Carter, Head Baker and his team won a national television competition for Britain’s Best Bakery in 2012 and the Baker Industry Award for Bakery of the Year in 2013.
Hambleton Hall overlooks Rutland Water. This magnificent reservoir has an international reputation for providing a balance of sport, leisure and wildlife conservation and offers the opportunity for all to try something new.
You can experience energetic sports such as windsurfing, rock-climbing or canoeing, hire a dinghy, go fishing or hire a bike from one of the UK’s largest cycle stores or just relax by the water and watch the action around the 25 mile shoreline.
The far end of the reservoir is home to Rutland Water Nature Reserve, one of the most important wildfowl sanctuaries in Great Britain, regularly holding in excess of 20,000 waterfowl.
Within twenty to thirty five minutes drive of Hambleton Hall there are a number of country houses, castles, and churches of considerable interest. Burghley House, Belton House, Belvoir Castle, Grimsthorpe Castle and Rockingham Castle. Some local village churches include Normanton and Exton.
Alternatively many of our visitors like to seek some inspiration in a fine garden, our favourite gardens are Coton Manor and Easton Walled Gardens.
We also have three charming market towns close at hand, Oakham, Uppingham and Stamford.
