Stylish and stuffy often go hand in hand, especially in Paris. But in this gorgeous little hotel, Hôtel Daniel, just minutes from the Champs Elysees, the staff couldn’t be more friendly if they tried.
Staying in one of the 26 rooms in the Hotel Daniel is like staying in a private Parisian home, albeit a very elegant one. Behind the white exterior lies a world of chinoiserie chic, with a riot of colours in the hand-painted wallpaper and the oriental carpets, and some Arabian antiques thrown in for good measure. It’s both sumptuous and welcoming.
“It's tempting to hunker down in this hidden enclave of style”
There’s no cramming into a tiny lift, either. This one is generously proportioned and if you have the good fortune to be staying in a deluxe room on the top floor, you’ll have views of the Parisian rooftops vying for your attention, along with the delightful decor.
It’s tempting to hunker down in this hidden enclave of style without venturing further, especially as the squishy sofas are the perfect place to enjoy a very elegant afternoon tea which could easily segue into pre-dinner drinks and then a delightful meal. But leave the hotel you must; just outside, all of Paris’ key sites await.
