Home to lemurs, chameleons, tortoises, humming birds, cocoa, vanilla, ylang-ylang, papyrus and carnivorous plants; Madagascar is one of the last remaining unspoilt oases on the planet. There are virgin forests, savannas and tiny islands to explore. The nature is so rich that the famous Parisian landscape architect Camille Muller was inspired to gather the rarest species in the hotel’s landscaped garden. Located in a nature reserve, Anjajavy l'Hôtel consists of a beautiful ensemble of rosewood villas scattered over a long sandy beach on the Mozambique Channel. Explore deserted creeks, little fishing villages and the Tsingy, coral remains sculpted by erosion and overlapping baobab roots.

Our commitments

Conservation in Madagascar is a priority for the WWF, yet dozens of species on the island remain under threat. Sadly, the problem has a long history. For example, two once plentiful species of giant tortoise that once roamed the island are now long gone - a loss that still seriously affects the island’s ecosystems in areas such as seed dispersal and tree reproduction.
However, a further native species still survives on the nearby the Aldabra Atoll. In 2018, Madagascan tortoise expert Dr Miguel Pedrono and the island’s Government hatched an ambitious plan to reintroduce it. Working with Anjajavy le Lodge, they selected the hotel’s recently expanded Protected Area as the ideal site. 12 tortoises have been fitted with transponders and moved to Anjajavy. The project is Madagascar’s first such program and has attracted the attention of conservation experts globally. It also offers the first opportunity to study the ecology of living Madagascan megafauna, rather than fossil remains - raising the exciting prospect of discovering previously unknown ecological functions.

(Re)fall in love

The private peninsula of Anjajavy is a paradise for couples in search of nature and privacy. They will particularly appreciate the heavenly, oasis-like setting of the lodge, sustainably designed by a French landscape gardener and lover of Madagascar. A shaded path leads to five private coves, which give the feeling of being alone in the world. You can also exchange wedding vows according to Sakalava custom–it’s one of Madagascar’s 18 ethnic groups–in a ceremony rich in color and emotion.

(Re)discover nature

Listed as a priority conservation area by the World Wildlife Fund, the Anjajavy peninsula is part of one of the planet’s last untouched ‘virgin’ territories. It is also the ideal place to observe lemurs, reptiles and birds in their natural habitat. Marked trails, starting from the lodge, allow you to discover wild coves, mysterious caves and local tsingy rock formations. Treat yourself to an idyllic break in harmony with Madagascan nature, in all its remarkably preserved beauty.

Converse with villagers

The Anjajavy Protected Area aims to preserve the cultural heritage of its surrounding villages. Participating in guided tours, led by villagers, allows you to appreciate the unique lifestyles of the peninsula, as well as its enchanting landscapes, typical architecture, ancestral customs and traditional events. Friendly, engaging encounters with local villagers can also be organized through lodge staff. Whichever you choose, your experience will undoubtedly form unforgettable memories.
