« The "Da Caino" restaurant is located in a splendid market town in Montemerano, on a hilltop in a rolling green landscape. The earth here is chalky which is perfect for growing grapevines and olive trees, as well as being rich in thermal water. Several ancient buildings overlook the citadel, including the one which houses our restaurant. »

The scent of a gentle wakening

« In 1998, three rooms were created upstairs and made available to clients wishing to relax after their meal. Each one is different, with antique, predominately 19th century furniture which makes them especially pleasant. This cocoon is the perfect place for sweet dreams. You can be gently awoken by the scent of fresh home-made cakes and biscuits coming from the lounge where you rounded off the evening the previous night, chatting peacefully while enjoying a vintage liqueur after dinner or a herbal tea, as you would do at a friend's house. »

« When leaving this authentic and magical place, it's not uncommon to want to take a piece of the dream, filled with memories, with you. For this purpose, the oil produced by the family which is served during meals is available to buy at the enoteca, as well as other house specialities. »

Childhood friends Maurizio Menichetti and Chef Valeria Piccini opened this restaurant in 1987 on the very same premises where Maurizio’s parents once had a trattoria, in one of the stone houses overlooking the medieval village of Montemerano. Valeria’s outstanding cuisine quickly became one of the most renowned in the country, due to dishes that sing the praises of the region. The Caino, with its nine tables for only eighteen covers, has the intimate atmosphere of an authentic Tuscan restaurant. In an Italy where female chefs are increasingly prominent, this unique gourmet spot is an absolute must.

Caino is an authentic Tuscan restaurant in the small, hilltop town of Montemerano. Here, Michelin-starred chef, Valeria Piccini, creates regionally-inspired dishes that convey the emotion and love that goes into preparing them.
The chef draws inspiration from the rich produce of the area’s fertile, chalk soils, which provide the perfect ground for vines and olives. The restaurant produces its own wines, as well as what diners consider to be exceptional olive oil from groves containing some 900 trees.
