Joigny, city of art and history
Joigny belongs to the "Cities and countries of art and history" and "Most Beautiful Detours of France" networks, thanks to the wealth of its heritage. Its old town, classified as a city of art and history, boasts large timbered-framed houses, including the Maison de l’Arbre de Jessé (known as Bailli). He would often return and would mention it in his personal correspondence. Madeleine-Sophie Barat was born in Joigny in 1779. She founded the society of the Sacred Heart for the education of young girls.
