18th-century château & listed parkland

wine-producing property
near Aix-en-Provence
culinary destination
family-friendly

Once home to a large family of Provençal humanists, Château de Fonscolombe has preserved its soul. Its salons of Genoa leather and Chinese wallpaper still resonate with their lively character. The park, with paths lined by majestic trees, is the fantastic oeuvre of a lineage of botanists. As for the restaurant La Table de l'Orangerie, it too has embraced the chic, rustic and Provençal charm of the estate. Soft and subdued in winter, it takes its summer quarters in the shade of a large bald cypress. Chef Marc Fontanne breathes his creativity into a modern cuisine with original Provencal flavors in harmony with the richness of the terroir.

A Castle filled with history

The Château de Fonscolombe is classified as a historical monument. It was built in the 18th century in the heart of Provence in the Quattrocento style. It belonged to two large families of humanists, that of Marquis de Saporta and Fonscolombe. Its members are renowned in sciences and weaponry, as evidenced by their friendship with Rabelais, their service with Henri de Navarre, and their correspondence with Darwin. This castle is designed as a large house where all the spaces join, just like a family, while still preserving individual privacy. The historical salons of the castle are decorated with leather
