If Romeo and Juliet had enjoyed a happier ending to their story, it is easy to imagine it being played out here. Twenty minutes from Verona, the two lovers would have met secretly on the banks of Lake Garda. They would have strolled along the beach of Villa Fiordaliso, a neoclassical marvel with facades of Siena stone, long rows of lemon trees and a lounge decorated with Venetian stained glass. They would have taken refuge in a romantic room named after a flower: Iris, Mimosa, Orchid, or Magnolia, and would perhaps have lingered in the elegant piano bar in the medieval San Marco Tower which overlooks the private harbour. After enjoying breakfast on the jetty, board the lake's legendary "Riva Aquarama" for a day spent discovering Lake Garda. Swim in the bays around the island del Garda and sunbathe far from prying eyes. Wait for sunset to treat yourself to an aperitif on the lakeside in Salò, a beautiful little town with many bars and boutiques.

Visit the Vittoriale degli italiani, an estate built for Gabriele D’Annunzio, just a ten minute walk away. This is one of the most-visited museums in Lombardy. It also has one of Italy's most beautiful parks. The estate is made up of buildings, roads, theatres, gardens, waterways, boats, and cars, and was constructed in honour of one of Italy's best-known contemporary poets.
In summer, it plays host to concerts by artists such as Patti Smith, Paolo Conte, The John Butler Trio, Goran Bregovic, etc. The Vineria della Torre is open until 3am to welcome you as you exit the theatre.
