In the immediate vicinity of Ranthambore National Park, known as the kingdom of the tigers, Sujàn Sher Bagh camp captures the spirit of a 1920s safari. Arranged around a campfire, its elegant tents–all exquisitely decorated and featuring private verandas– are the ideal refuge for budding explorers. Dominated by the imposing citadel that lends its name to the reserve, the jungle is full of the ruins of palaces, monuments and follies, now taken over by spectacular wildlife. Thanks to their in-depth knowledge of the park and its occupants, Sujàn Sher Bagh’s guides offer an unparalleled safari experience, comprising two expeditions–in between, you can relax in the swimming pool, in the shade of trees. A traditional Indian dinner provides an opportunity to exchange stories of the day’s exploits around the campfire. With dishes prepared in earthen ovens, using produce from the garden, this unique dining occasion is also destined to become a treasured memory.

Here, preserving our natural heritage is a way of life. Suppliers and producers are encouraged to get involved in protecting the environment through innovative ways.
Sher Bagh raises awareness among their suppliers about using natural, traditional and organic farming methods and a ‘no plastic’ policy. Important work is carried out in collaboration with governmental wildlife protection agencies and NGOs: the property provides them with resources and manpower for their critical work in conservation. Indigenous plants are nurtured and grown throughout the grounds. The property’s own foundation, “SNS”, supports local development by helping locals develop new skills to boost their employability. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, solar energy and waste fed fuel is used for heating and electricity, and seafood does not figure on the menu; the sea is just too far away.
Jaisal & Anjali Singh have personally designed & created each of the exclusive destination experiences out of sheer passion and an overwhelming commitment to protecting and preserving India’s wildlife, heritage and culture for future generations. The Suján Family has been working with tigers through filming, monitoring, researching and creating awareness about these majestic cats in Ranthambhore for generations. They put Ranthambhore on the map through their pioneering filming of tigers in the wild and in 1988, established The Ranthambhore Foundation, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), working closely with the development of villages around the park boundaries. Jaisal and Anjali have since continued the family’s legacy of conservation through the creation of Suján by introducing proven sustainable tourism models by opening ethically sound, luxury boutique experiences in unique areas of pristine wilderness, which benefit local communities as well as play a role in preserving indigenous wildlife. Together along with the team they have built around them, Jaisal and Anjali Singh, are hugely passionate about implementing well-regulated eco-tourism practices to protect India’s wildernesses.

For every guest who visits a Suján property a conservation contribution is directly fed into a fund with which Suján provides financial support and resources to their own projects and local conservation partners.

SUJAN’s conservation initiatives run across several districts of Rajasthan and focus on:

The royal Bengal tiger

Sujan Sher Bagh is acknowledged as the most charming and authentic place to stay in Ranthambhore, and is nestled on the borders of Ranthambhore National Park, ideally located for heading out on safari. Our guide will take you on board a Jeep in the park to observe the master of the house: the royal Bengal tiger. With seventy big cats found across a surface of 282 km², spotting this majestic creature is not uncommon. With over 40 years experience, Sher Bagh’s guides and trackers stand out. Their incredible knowledge of the park and the behaviour of its star inhabitant, the tiger, together with their passionate enthusiasm, make this experience unparalleled.

UNESCO Ranthambhore Fort Ramble

This formidable 8th-century fort was strategically located in North India and became especially important during the Mughal period. The Great Mughal emperor, Akbar, wrested control of the fort in 1569. Considered impregnable, this crenellated citadel sits atop a ridge at the very heart of the park. It has Sultanate and Rajput palaces, mosques and temples, including an important temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the Elephant God. Thousands of people come here from every corner of the country to seek the blessings of the lord for happiness and prosperity. We will take you on a special guided journey to the fort from the park gates through a beautiful part of the forest in the heart of tiger territory. The views of the reserve from the battlements are breathtaking. Our guide will navigate you through the fort and its rich history and there will be a delicious picnic along the way.

Safari into Ranthambhore National Park

Ranthambhore National Park is the finest habitat in the world to watch tigers in the wild. Mughal ruins, palaces and cenotaphs lie in the embrace of ancient hills and forests. Apart from being home to the tiger, other animals commonly seen are the wild boar, deer, antelope and monkey. The jackal, mongoose, sloth bear and leopard also roam this forest. In winter, thousands of birds migrate from Europe and Siberia making Ranthambhore an ornithologist’s paradise. With over 40 years experience, Sher Bagh’s guides and trackers stand out. Dastakar – Empowering Women

Dastkar Ranthambhore is a non-profit organization that produces handicrafts created by women from the villages around the Ranthambhore National Park. Founded in 1989, this was an effort to empower and provide income to villagers on the periphery of the tiger reserve. At Sher Bagh we are committed to the idea that craft can be a powerful social, economic, and cultural force that has enormous potential to transform the lives of the poor. We have long been supporting Dastkar. Guests can visit the NGO and get an opportunity to speak with the women and watch them at work. Their wide range of beautifully handmade products, including homeware, clothing, block-printed bags, and other small gifts are perfect presents to take home. Guests can also choose and create their own designs and have things tailored. Dastakar is just short, leisurely walk from the camp.
