En el precioso pueblecito de Bouliac, los edificios construidos en 1989 por el famoso arquitecto Jean Nouvel albergan el Saint-James ubicado en medio de un jardín con aromas de limoneros y rosas antiguas. Inspirados en los antiguos secaderos de tabaco, cuatro edificios unidos por una galería definen un espacio depurado y contemporáneo. En lontananza, se ve el bosque de las Landas de Gascuña, el mayor conjunto de pinos marítimos de Europa. La gastronomía del Saint-James es uno de sus grandes atractivos. El chef escenifica una cocina rica en sabores, basada en los productos de la zona y del mercado, sublimada por los vinos de la notable bodega y la vista panorámica de Burdeos.

Una piscina en los viñedos

¿Qué lugar hay mejor para admirar Burdeos rodeado de 950 viñas y 4 pabellones inspirados en los secaderos de tabaco y diseñados por Jean Nouvel? La piscina de 25 metros de longitud del Saint-James es un verdadero remanso de paz donde el farniente y la relajación son las palabras clave. Acompañar este momento con una copa de Lillet, aperitivo de origen bordelés, y un tentempié preparado por nuestro chef con estrellas Michelin, Nicolas Magie, lo hace excepcional. A menudo los bordeleses se refieren al Saint-James con el nombre de Balcón de Burdeos. Aquí esta expresión adquiere todo su sentido.

¡Una experiencia inédita!

Déjese sorprender. Nada más entrar, todos los tópicos sobre la hostelería se derrumbarán. Para empezar, el bar alberga varios grandes clásicos del diseño: sillones, sofás y sillas firmadas por Verner Panton, Charles Eames... sin olvidar la poltrona de Louis Crusoe, diseñada por Bleu Nature, a imagen y semejanza de un nido posado en los árboles. En cuanto a las habitaciones, el famoso arquitecto Jean Nouvel quiso resaltar el blanco, símbolo de la pureza y la simplicidad. Los ventanales acristalados están descubiertos, contando con las vistas de la naturaleza como única decoración. La cama le ofrece un espectáculo que corta la respiración... y con razón, cambia de altura de una habitación a otra, para brindarle, una vez acostado, una vista despejada de los viñedos. Dormir en el Le Saint-James intensifica la experiencia.

Una apertura a la cultura

Desde su apertura, el Le Saint-James apostó enseguida por la cultura, el arte, la arquitectura, el diseño... Con la obra de Jean Nouvel, por supuesto. Pero también solicitando al escultor César Baldaccini inaugurar, desde 1989, la primeras "16 áreas" de viñas plantadas en el parque del hotel. Después, con el paso de los años, la galería que une el complejo del siglo XVIII con los pabellones se ha visto transformada y acondicionada en un espacio dedicado al arte. Los pintores, escultores y fotógrafos se dan paso los unos a los otros con motivo de las numerosas exposiciones que se celebran al año.
